Pennywise Prepster

Of course this blog is catered to the pennywise prepster therefore, lets discuss ways to look preppy and not break the bank.

First, empty out your closet and examine each article of clothing. After you have looked at your existing wardrobe, donate anything that is hopeless.

Next, it is time to sit down and create a look book. This can be easily done by viewing my pinterest page: www.pinterest.com/preppygirlstyle

Once you have decided on the outfits you are looking to create, it is time to go shopping! Go to stores like Century 21, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, and various Thrift Stores. With about $15 bucks, you can sometimes get a decent-quality shirt or pair of jeans, every once in a while from preppy brands like Ralph Lauren. If you are still having trouble about what to look for after viewing pinterest. A few basics to help get you started would be: polos, oxfords, henleys, turtlenecks, cable sweaters, etc. As far as shoes, boat shoes, oxfords, loafers, or ballet flats are always a good choice.

Now, if you are unable to purchase any new items... don't worry! Try the ten piece basic wardrobe challenge to get you started.

Well, until next time... cheers!

Welcome to Preppy GIRL Style!

GIRL is an acronym for Gifted, Intelligent, Resilient, Ladies (GIRL)

Everyone has their definition of preppy and I have mine. Preppies buy clothes not for the label, but for what they look like. Preppy is not a trend, it’s a LIFESTYLE... it can never go out of fashion.

Preppy is a lifestyle… not a clothing style.

This blog will focus on the pennywise prep style from a curvy GIRL prospective. Curvy? Yes, curvy… ladies that wear clothing in the double digits (size 10 and above).

Now if you know me, you know that my signature clothing articles are: the blazer and the vest. The blazer and the vest will give life to any GIRLs outfit.

The Blazer.

You see how it just gives 'life' to a what was going to be simple outfit, amazing!

Yes, I know blazers are expensive. However, if you are like me and buy off season, you can get a blazer for a great price. If you do not like to buy off season, you still can find a blazer reasonably priced, you just have to be adamant.

In addition, lets not forget there is always layaway. Yes, there is still layaway people.
Stores that I know still have layaway are: Sears, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's.

Where can I find plus size blazers? Everywhere never be afraid to ask a store what is the largest size they carry. Stores are in business to make money, so don't be shy or ashamed for that matter. You can find plus size blazers at: Thrift Stores, Target, Macy's, GAP, Kohl's, Eloquii, Forever 21, JC Penney, Jessica London, Amazon to name a few.

Still not convinced that the blazer is one of the most versatile items ever.

The best part is that you actually don't have to buy a new blazer, you can borrow it from your mother's, sister's or even boyfriend's closet. It's not necessary that it fits you perfectly, unlike other items in your wardrobe. You are allowed to wear blazers one size or even two sizes bigger for any occasion.

Problem: Your plus size and busty therefore, most jackets will fit but won't button.

Solution: Purchase a blazer with no buttons. There are plenty of blazers these days that are button less. With a button less blazer you even have the option of putting a belt around it.

Not in love with the belt around it, well keep it simple and leave it open! You can style blazers any way you wish, now that's versatility. Remember, you make the rules when it comes to 'your' outfit.

The Vest.

A vest is one of the most versatile separates you can own, but you may need some ideas on how to wear this timeless wardrobe staple.

The vest use to be limited to three-piece suits and warm outdoor apparel. Women today, however, have truly made the vest their own, wearing it with everything from T-shirts to frilly dresses. Women's vests are versatile and universally flattering, so it makes sense to incorporate one into your wardrobe.

Here are a couple of pointers to consider when wearing a vest:

No more than one fattening garment. Basically, if you’re wearing loose and oversized vests, your bottom needs to be fitted. If the body shape guidelines don’t recommend that (e.g. you have prominent curves) then focus on fitted bottoms, but in a shape and cut that complements the shape of your body.

Speaking of body shape, if you’re self-conscious about your body figure then select fashion vests that complement it. For example, if you have wide or prominent upper body (shoulders and bust) look for long vests that create curves around the hip or wear a pair of flare leg jeans.

In sum, buying blazers and vest can be viewed as expensive, but one thing I love to use in addition to shopping off season and thrift stores are flash sale sites.
